A shaving brush has a few key benefits.Â
Â
First it exfoliates the skin in a gentle way removing the dead cells and prepping the skin for a comfortable shave.Â
Â
Second a shaving brush holds moisture and warmth making it easier to moisturize the beard to make cutting the hairs easier with less pressure.Â
Â
Third it maximizes the utility of your shaving cream because a brush generates a rich lather with less shaving cream.Â
Â
In this post I want to share with you how to use a shaving brush in a proper way.
When using a shaving brush, there are three things to keep in mind.
Â
1. DIP THE BRUSH IN HOT WATER AND REMOVE EXCESS MOISTURE
Dipping the brush in hot water allows the brush to soak up and absorb warmth. These two elements are important for softening the hairs. When dipped in water, the brush absorbs far more moisture than necessary so a gentle squeeze is pivotal to remove the excess moisture. I advise you to start with little moisture and add water later on if necessary.
Â
2. ADD SHAVING CREAM TO THE BRUSH
With the tip of your finger make a little well in the brush. Take an almond size bit of shaving cream and put it in the well you just created.
Â
3. LATHER UP THE CREAM USING CIRCULAR MOTIONS
Lather the cream by using gentle circular motions either directly on your face or in a bowl. When using a bowl I advise you to wash it with hot water first to avoid the brush from losing the warmth too quickly. While lathering you will notice whether the lather is too dry. If so dip the tip of the brush in hot water and continue lathering until you reach a rich creamy consistency.
Â
Remember to wash your brush thoroughly after you finished shaving. Give it a few gentle shakes and leave it to dry.
